Filming

From what I heard about filming, Louis was responsible for the cinematography of the filming of the piece as he had the most vision about the piece and Bronte worked on the lighting of the set to make sure that the characters were properly illuminated. However, there was some problems with the lighting that meant we could not do the 'step by step' flickering of the lights that we had originally planned to do. This was a major set back as this was one of our main visual effects that we had been hoping to do, and therefore we had to think of something else quickly that would be just as effective.

Although I was not able to be there, I got regular updates on the filming of the piece. The green screen backdrop was something that we hadn't taken into account when moving characters in front of it, so we had to be really careful on the day although some parts of the green screen might still be compromised by the colour of the hat that Susannah was wearing but we won't know until we get the footage back.

The position of the camera was also a really hard thing to get right on the filming set Louis said, as it was nearly impossible from where we had positioned our set to not get Tyler's groups set in the background of our shots- this will have to be something that we will correct in the editing process as there was nothing that we could do about this.

Finished Set Build

This week I came in to finish the set before the shoot on Monday which I unfortunately will not be attending due to unforeseen circumstances. I will be giving Louis a storyboard and some shot lists for him to look at before the shoot on Monday and will be confirming with Jess hopefully about the flooring.

These are the finished shots of our set- bar the flooring. It was finished on the Thursday as Louis and I had ran out of wallpaper paste on the Wednesday. We did the walls of the set by wallpapering the flats and then painting that layer brown. We did this with various textures of wallpaper, and then when this had dried we got a white textured wallpaper and went over the brown layer with this- ripping when it was dry to show the grime underneath. I then got teabags and painted the white layer over so that it appeared a grimey off-colour cream.
We had previously in the first session we ever had in the workshop assembled our flats and cut out our window, so the only thing left to do to the window was to affix the windowsill that we had cut and painted. We ran into some trouble with this, so Susannah helped us by showing us that we could screw them on by hand and that it would be much safer and easier than using a drill or the hot glue gun - we had tried both.
It has taken a lot of hours of work but I'm really happy with the way that the set has turned out. It looks better than I envisioned that it was going to and I hope that the rest of the team are happy with how the set looks as we did hit some complications on the way such as running out of wallpaper and the lack of being able to find a cot for our uncanny baby to sit in. We found a basket that did just as good of a job however, which was very lucky.
Hopefully the shoot on Monday will go well and I have asked them to keep me up to date with it and also to ask for help if they need it. Its a shame that I can't be there in person but due to unforeseen circumstances I cannot.

Set

It will be our first set design session on Wednesday and we will be going shopping for a few pieces that we need to get. I will be posting what decorations we get here along with hopefully some photos.

We already have the flooring that we are hoping to use, it is just the wallpaper and some set decorations such as a crib (which we are hoping to get from a charity shop of some kind) and an outfit for our creepy uncanny child. Hopefully we can get a crib for a lower price than what we have seen on the internet. The crib doesn't need to be particularly new, seen as we are going with the Eraserhead head look which means that hopefully we can get one for a low price.

I feel like we have most of the things that we need for set decoration, which shortens our process of making up the set in general.

We had our first day building a set, in which we put up 3 of the 4 flats we will be using. We also tested some of the paint that was available from the stores. We decided we needed to buy our own black as it was too water based, so Jess and Bronte have bought some.
We also got some wallpaper as we are planning to peel back to reveal a distressed wall. This is to make the set appear much more grimy and to help with the sense of uncanny that we are meant to be portraying. We are yet to buy the cot for our scenes but Louis is the one that is selecting this.
